Renovation of a social housing building in Barcelona

Heat Measuring Project

PUMSA (Promociones Urbanísticas de Mataró S.A.) is a company created in 1989 by the City Council of Mataró, north of Barcelona (Spain), to promote the development and improvement of the city through sustainable and innovative urban management. Over the years, PUMSA has contributed significantly to the urban transformation of the city, creating new residential neighbourhoods, industrial areas and commercial spaces. It has built squares, public and residential buildings, warehouses, car parks and infrastructure that improve the quality of life of citizens. The company also manages urban mobility services, such as short-stay and resident parking, regulated parking and the municipal crane service. In 2025, as part of its sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives, PUMSA implemented a heat metering project in a social housing building. The project,
which came into operation at the end of March 2025, allows the energy consumption of each dwelling to be measured accurately, ensuring a more equitable distribution of costs and encouraging tenants to use energy more consciously. The Supercal 5, Supercal 739, Supercom 646 and Supercom 656 series were used to carry out the installation.
All these devices communicate via radio frequency and work in synergy to ensure accurate measurement and efficient energy consumption management. Specifically, the Supercal 5 series measures the thermal energy produced by heating and cooling systems, while the Supercal 739 compact static heat meter
accurately detects the energy used in each housing unit. All the data collected is transmitted to the Supercom 646 data concentrator and sent via GSM to a server so that the building manager can manage the consumption of each dwelling using a free application (at no cost). To facilitate communication between devices, the Supercom 656 radio signal repeater extends the range of the system, ensuring stable and continuous transmission
of information. With this project, PUMSA has once again confirmed its commitment to improving the quality and energy efficiency of public real estate, contributing to a more
modern, sustainable city that is attentive to the needs of its citizens.

Why choose Watts Heat Metering

Using Watts heat metering products means adopting a reliable, accurate and transparent solution for managing energy consumption. In particular, the main advantage for the local council is the ability to accurately monitor the air conditioning consumption of each flat, knowing exactly how much energy has been used and how much this corresponds to in terms of expenditure in pounds sterling. This allows for fair cost allocation and more efficient energy management for the entire building. The Watts system also provides easy access to an Excel file containing clear consumption data for each dwelling, for monitoring or reporting purposes. All information is centralised and automatically updated, giving the local council total control over consumption. Another distinctive feature of Watts products is that they are an open system, requiring no software licence fees or maintenance costs. This guarantees the municipality total autonomy in data management and significant savings over time, avoiding contractual constraints or recurring expenses.

What our customers say

“The Watts heat metering series is an open, flexible and easily integrated system that allows for transparent and autonomous management of energy consumption. This feature, continues the PUMSA spokesperson, guarantees greater operational efficiency, ease of use and the ability to access information directly and immediately, without relying on proprietary platforms or external services”.
