Efficient heat distribution for heat pumps with Watts

Overview

Installation of a underfloor heating/cooling system with a heat pump for the new construction of a bungalow. For the heat distribution, Watts not only supplied the heating circuit manifold, but also the iDROSET CF balancing valve for hydraulic balancing, as well as fittings and the Vision wireless system for room temperature control. Detailed Description

For the new construction of a bungalow with 105 m² living space in the Dahner Felsenland, an air-to-water heat pump was installed in combination with an underfloor heating and cooling system. The installation was carried out by Birk Heim, managing director of "Heizungsbau Heim", and his two colleagues. For the installation of the associated underfloor heating and cooling, the Heim heating construction company relied on Watts Industries. In addition to the HKV2013AF+ stainless steel manifold with 8 heating circuits, Watts also supplied the air vent valves, safety valves, shut-off and non-return valves, the expansion vessel and the iDROSET CF balancing valve for hydraulic balancing required for the installation. "I have been working with Watts Industries since I started in the industry," explains Birk Heim. "The fact that I get as many of the devices and components for installing a heat pump system as possible from one manufacturer has made the planning process much easier." Given the size of the bungalow, a stainless steel manifold for 8 heating circuits and a control distributor with plug-in connections for individual room control were sufficient. Watts supplied this in a pre-assembled distribution cabinet complete with wall bracket and rails. All rooms are equipped with wireless thermostats from the Vision Wireless system. To get the most out of underfloor heating/cooling in a bungalow, hydraulic balancing, which regulates the flow of water in the heating system, is particularly important. Most often, hydraulic balancing valves require the use of external measuring devices to ensure accurate calibration - a time-consuming and therefore costly process. The Watts iDROSET CF valve, however, eliminates the need for external measuring devices. Instead, the valve features a visual display that allowed the Birk Heim team to adjust the flow rate quickly and easily. "After the uncomplicated installation, the previously calculated flow rate can be set via a handwheel, and the flow rate can be read in real time without an additional measuring device. This reduces the effort required to set the flow to a few seconds per valve," explains Michael Burkhart, of Watts Industries. In addition, the valve provides real-time feedback on the flow rate so that potential problems can be better identified during and after installation. "The advantage of the iDROSET CF was clearly the great time saved during hydraulic balancing," emphasises Birk Heim.
