Modern, safe water supply
Water utility companies are responsible for providing safe and clean drinking water to the public and maintaining the quality of that water. In addition to protecting public health, maintaining safe water quality is essential to prevent contaminated water from harming aquatic ecosystems and wildlife.
The new waterworks are crucial for supplying clean water to the region’s population. With an investment of £57 million, this project aimed to increase the capacity of the water treatment works and introduce advanced filtration technologies to secure the supply of high-quality water.
The project features our SOCLA Sylax butterfly valves, Tilis butterfly valves, 402, 405, and 895 non-return valves in cast iron and stainless steel, as well as BAR AGTURN actuators, to effectively meet the project’s objectives. We supplied a total of 650 valves, a mix of manual and actuated types. They ranged in size from DN50 to DN350.
Our valves were selected for this project because of their ability to meet the technical challenges of the plant. The plant draws water from a reservoir approximately two miles northwest of the site. This reservoir is replenished by the river intake pumps located within the intake building, which is directly adjacent to the river.
The maximum flow of raw water that can be drawn from the reservoir to the works is 130-135 Megalitres Per Day (MLD). However, an additional measure was required to achieve the desired design flow value. Our team supplied SOCLA Sylax butterfly valves, specifically designed for raw water applications, to address this issue.
